While advances in modern science have nearly doubled our lifespans in only four generations, our quality of life has not reached its full potential. Outlining the reasons why we suffer from chronic diseases from asthma and diabetes to obesity, arthritis and cancer to a host of other ailments, The Disease Delusion by Dr. Bland explains what Functional Medicine is and what it can do for you, and offers achievable, science-based solutions that can alleviate these common conditions and offers a roadmap for a lifetime of wellness.
Contrary to conventional wisdom, chronic disease is not genetically predetermined but results from a mismatch between our genes and environment and lifestyle. What we call a "disease" is the outcome of an imbalance in one or more of the seven core physiological processes. Leveraging a lifetime on the cutting edge of research and practice, Dr. Jeffrey S. Bland lays out a road map for good health by helping us understand these processes and the root causes of chronic illness.
As Bland teaches us, no two people have the identical form of any disease, so with the right personalized program, we can safely and effectively manage and ultimately cure what ails us. In the twenty-first century, medicine is undergoing a paradigm shift comparable to the advances in infectious disease in the late nineteenth century. While these strides have nearly doubled life expectancies in only four generations, quality of life has yet to rise to its full potential.
Treatment of chronic diseases—diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, dementia, and many others—is responsible for 78 percent of total health care costs in the United States, yet we're managing the symptoms of these illnesses with pills and temporary remedies instead of identifying, preventing, and addressing their underlying causes. In The Disease Delusion, we learn how we may fundamentally change our perceptions of illness and approach a cure. Complete with self-evaluation questionnaires and sample meal plans, and supported by the most recent advances in health science. Includes 8 interactive health assessments you can complete on your phone.

Everyone should read this book. I have told all my clients and everyone I know with any chronic condition to get this book and get healthy. We rely on pills to cure us and don't want to do the work to make ourselves truly well.
A Book everyone needs to read at least twice!

This book is revolutionary! Contains so much helpful information, facts and real life case studies to support Dr. Bland's theories. I have heard why diet is important from many different sources, but he takes it down to the cellular and gene level and shows what actually happens when we eat unhealthy foods. He convinced me, and as a Personal Trainer I am excited to share his book and expertise with my clients. I'm reading it through for the second time. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to live a healthier life and help others do the same.
Great course for Certification Renewal
Posted by Steve Vayda on 30th Jul 2016
I had already read The Disease Delusion book by Dr. Bland about four months ago and found the book and Dr. Bland's concept of a "new way" for healthcare today very interesting and completely understandable, particularly because of the current and growing problems of chronic diseases within the healthcare industry not just affecting the USA but now becoming a world-wide epidemic.
What I found however, in completing this re-certification course was that I gained a much deeper understanding of the need for current medicine to change and move forward to functional medicine as Dr. Bland so succinctly explains in this book. Far more that simply reading the book itself.
In completing this re-certification I gained a more in-depth understanding of functional medicine and its principles which has provided me with the understanding of how better to relate to my patients and help them be able to understand and overcome their own health problems.
I highly recommend this course to anyone contemplating re-certification because it provides a great in-depth and hands on approach to the latest thinking and the way forward for the healthcare industry.
